OVERVIEW

Description

Ever wanted to build your own game but thought coding was too complicated? Want to make some new friends? Need a new laptop? Join us for "CTRL+ALT+SLAY: Code Your First Game" – a 7-week workshop where you'll create your very own game.

Starting Monday, October 6, 2025, we invite high school students who identify as women or non-binary to discover the world of game development. No coding experience required – we'll teach you everything you need to know in a supportive, fun environment. BEGINNERS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO JOIN!

What you'll experience:

  • Create a Real Game: Build a fully functional memory matching game with 16 cards that you can customize with your favorite themes – music artists, hobbies, or anything you love
  • Learn by Doing: Each Monday from 5:00/5:15, we'll guide you through Python basics, game logic, and design in hands-on sessions with plenty of breaks and activities
  • Free Pizza Dinners: After coding, we EAT a nice warm dinner all together!
  • Free Laptops: All students who complete the program get a free laptop. Please note, this only applies to students who have not attended previous years.
  • Supportive Community: Learn alongside other beginners in a judgment-free space where questions are encouraged and everyone helps each other succeed
  • Showcase Your Work: Present your finished game at our final showcase on November 24 – invite family and friends to see what you've accomplished!

Our schedule is designed for real learning: We meet every Monday evening (except Thanksgiving) as a group. You'll go from "I've never coded before" to "I built this game myself!" in just a few weeks.

By the end of the program, you'll have a complete game to show off, valuable coding skills for your future, and maybe some new friends 💖.

Ready to CTRL+ALT+SLAY your coding journey? Join us this October!
